Schools Alive!

WAM Schools Alive Smarter than Smoking is an exciting program that offers a range of activities and resources including concert incursions, song writing/recording workshops and Q & A sessions with local bands.

Sponsored by Healthway, WAM Schools Alive has presented live, original West Australian acts to over 100,000 students around the state since 2001. Previous acts have included charting & award winning acts such as Birds of Tokyo, Gyroscope, Little Birdy, Karnivool and John Butler.

Recently, rising bands such as The Brow Horn Orchestra, Split Seconds, Sonpsilo Circus and Sneaky Weasel Gang have been popular at metro and regional schools.

The concert incursion is the staple of WAM’s Schools Program and involves contemporary West Australian acts of all styles performing at schools using industry standard production equipment.

A workshop is also facilitated by the act before or afterwards to give students further insight into the craft and the industry.

The Schools Program aims to develop an audience for West Australian contemporary music, provide music industry skills to young people and emerging artists and raise awareness amongst young people of opportunities for involvement in their local music industry.

Testimonials
If you have thoughts to share about your Schools Alive experience, please don't hesitate to contact wam@wam.asn.au with your feedback.

"I cannot thank you and your team enough!

I just saw ten teachers, a dozen parents and 330 children (aged 5 to 13) dance non stop for 50 minutes and they were all so happy and focussed!

.... The teachers all raved about the afternoon's entertainment and how well behaved the kids were considering the freedom and massive stimulation. Children with bad body image or lack of physical skills were all grooving out, our sports teacher was amazed that music could shift unmotivated kids like that!

.... The band were absolutely AWESOME and did a terrific workshop. I got my 5 brass students to bring their instruments and we all jammed with 70 others who had percussion instruments... so much fun! The local paper covered the workshop also.

I believe that they will never forget today and if even only one or two of the students follow a Musical career
then it will make this all so worth it."
