The WAMi Music Film Showcase celebrates theWest Australian music scene as captured on film through the lens oflocal filmmakers. Thirty five WA music videos and nine short films anddocumentaries will feature with free daily screenings during the WAMiweek.


MUSIC FILMS AND DOCUMENTARIES

Hunter  8 minutes | Directed by Sam Bodhi Field, Produced by Alice Ross
WA musician Robert Hunter was a pioneer of Australian hip hop, a young father, an ex-drug and alcohol abuser, and, finally, a terminal cancer patient. At age 35 Hunter found out that his life was in danger of being cut short, and gave up drugs and alcohol and decided to use the digital tools at his disposal to share his physical, emotional and musical journey.

A Good Hustle – 5 minutes | Created by Ellie Murray-Yong
A behind the scenes look at the talent, passion and relationships in the local neo-bluegrass band The Seals.

Discovering Notes – 19 minutes | Created by Arun Raj
A documentary that draws parallels between the contemporary Aboriginal cultures of the Noongar people by exploring the music they produce and listen to.

Airway to Heaven – 6 minutes | Directed by Claire McCullagh
The story of air guitar champion Wes Roe, aka Tommy "Air" Manuel.

Cuddle – 9 minutes | Created by Ryan Svirac
Cuddle is a short film about eccentric local musician Tomás Ford and how he would cope with a normal 9 to 5 job and the weight of everyday life.

Sara Macliver – Soprano – 3 minutes | Created by Katie Macliver
This portrait follows the emotional and physical preparation of Australian Soprano Sara Macliver in her transformation from a wife and mother to her stage persona.

Timothy Nelson visits Fat Shan Records – 4 minutes | Created by John Aliaga
A parody starring Timothy Nelson and Amanda Merdzan about musicians and their (sometimes bloated) egos.

Desert Feet Tour – 5 minutes | Created by Richard Watson
An inspiring video shot in the iconic Australian outback, showing the music workshops, concerts and encounters on the Kimberly based Desert Feet Tour in October 2011.

Bent – 8 minutes | Created by Jennie Feyen
This short documentary focuses on the way in which The Gizzards, a local Perth artist, has incorporated the art of circuit bending into his music.

The WAMi Festival is on the look out for the best local films within the realm of music, with submissions open until Friday 20 April for the 2012 WAMi Music Film Showcase.

Held annually as part of the WAMi Festival, the WAMi Music Film Showcase celebrates the real life of the West Australian music scene as captured on film and showcases the music of Perth through the lens of aspiring and established local filmmakers.

Selected film clips will feature on the Northbridge Piazza screen through the course of the WAMi Festival week, 26 May- 2 June, with daily screenings of the clips, plus short films, documentaries and music videos. In 2011, 35 music clips were screened, featuring popular local acts Abbe May, Tomas Ford and San Cisco.

The WAMi Festival is the annual week-long celebration of the thriving original contemporary music industry in WA, and attracts over 25,000 people each year.

If you have produced, directed, performed, featured in or just been involved in a music related short film, film, documentary or music video, submit your entry online through the WAM website: wam.asn.au/musicfilm

Submissions open Thursday 5 April and close at 11:59pm AWST Sunday 22 April 2012.
