As part of the 2011 WAMi Festival we are proudly partnering with various organisations to showcase a multitude of musical genres at The Bakery in Northbridge, every week night during WAMi Festival.

FAIRBRIDGE FESTIVAL WAMi Showcase
Monday 23 May
8:00pm Showcase

$15 Non Members | $10 WAM Members

A night of top-flight world and folk-roots music from Fairbridge Festival artists. Now in it's 20th year Fairbridge Festival is WA's premier world and folk music event, with around 100 acts from around the globe performing each year. This evening brings together four favourite local acts, each with a very different and individual style. Grace Barbé, multi WAMi award winner will headline, bringing her unique 'Afro Kreol' sound with reggae, funk and afro beats. Other acts include Big Old Bears, Nuevo Salsa Orchestra and Urban Taal which is a super way to kick off the week.

Love it or hate it, the heavy music scene in WA has been a thriving melting pot of great talent since the 80's. With the loyalty of the local metal community being second none, the support and camaraderie today is as strong as it has ever been. Showcasing the current diversity and calibre of local original metal, the evening will feature performances from established metal rockers and WAMi Award nominees Chaos Divine, WA metal stalwarts Enforce and youngsters Empires Laid Waste.




JAZZWA WAMi Festival Showcase

JAZZWA, presents The JAZZAZIZ Volume 6 CD Launch. This combined JAZZWA / WAMi showcase event promises an evening of top quality original contemporary jazz music traversing bebop, fusion, ambient, middle-eastern, big band, electronic and modern jazz. Hitting the stage on the night are Alice Humphries' 10-piece ensemble Ecila and will also feature the hard-bop sounds of Backlash, acclaimed jazz songstress Libby Hammer and the raw fusion of Simon Jeans' thumpR. That's a total of 20 musicians all set to deliver one top quality night of original contemporary jazz. Each ticket purchased includes a free copy of the CD (Jazzaziz Volume 6) while stocks last!




PERTH BLUES CLUB WAMi Festival Showcase

Thursday 26 May

Get set to experience a blast of blues with the Bakery showcasing the 'Blues Explosion', proudly brought to you by the Perth Blues Club and Music Reunion Club. The line up includes PBC President Rick Steele, the father of some of Perth's rock royalty, bringing along his unique urban blues with the help of Wayne Freer, followed by the psychedelic blues of Bag Of Snakes, the piano-boogie of the Bob Patient Band, the acoustic excellence of Midnight Sun (in both duo and band mode) and The Blues Club House Band (featuring Chelsea Gibson and Billy Rogers) doin' it Chicago style. Also on the night the annual inductee to the Hall of Fame will be announced.




FUNK CLUB Festival Showcase
Think Twice presents Kurtis Blow

Friday 27 May

Mass Appeal, Perth's premier golden era hip hop night turns one, and to celebrate Think Twice, Gfted and WAM have teamed together to bring you the original King of Rap Kurtis Blow. Kurtis was the first rap artist ever to have a gold record with his smash hit The Breaks which not only inspired hip hop artists but also Bboys (Breakdancers) around the world. He will be joined by Stoop Fresh, The Mass Appeal Allstars, DJ Junior and Perth's top breakers.

The 2011 WAMi festival runs from May 21-28.

About Brooke
Brooke has performed varied roles in the West Australian arts and music industry over the last 14 years. From her beginnings at Fremantle Arts Centre, Brooke progressed to the role of Program and Events Manager at KULCHA, before working in various capacities at Sunset Events on such large scale festivals as Southbound, West Coast Blues n Roots, St Jerome’s Laneway and One Movement.

Joining the WAM in January 2011, Brooke brings band management skills, has chaired the Propel Youth Arts Board of Management, and coordinated the ‘Next Big Thing’ band showcase competition.
