  • Ways to make more money - public performance and reproduction licensing for indies
  • New places for your music - Background music providers and streaming services for indies
  • AIR - How we can help you!

About the Speaker:

Nick is the General Manger of the Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR). AIR deals with government and business on matters of policy where the independent sector is severely underrepresented and often pushed out of the market in favor of the majors.

AIR also deals with the promotion of the indie sector as a whole, hosting the Australian Independent Music Awards (AIR Awards) and providing professional development to indie labels and artists Australia-wide.

Nick is also serving on the inaugural board of Music Victoria. Prior to this he was part of The John Butler Trio's management team and a co-ordinator of The JB Seed.

Even though Nick’s heart lies with Rock and Roll, he started in the industry studying classical music at the VCA before spending a lot of time playing musically satisfying but managerially frustrating jazz and hip-hop bands. These days he spends his down-time Melbourne playing the vibraphone or locked up in a studio writing and releasing rad electronic pop music.

ARIEL HYATT Masterclass Series Success

 Masterclass at Rosemount Hotel

WAM hosted New York online music marketing and social media guru Ariel Hyatt on her first visit to Western Australia last week for a series of masterclasses. Over 200 people, including musicians, representatives of local music businesses and music industry students, all attended masterclasses and meetings with Ariel over several nights in Perth and Margaret River.

As the founder of Cyber PR, a firm on the cutting edge of social media and online marketing and promotion, Ariel was able to offer practical advice to help musicians and music businesses get on top of their online strategies, something of vital importance to industry professionals in a remote capital and regional area alike.

“Ariel Hyatt's workshop could not have happened at a better time - and some would say was a bit overdue,” says Scott Adam, Course Co-ordinator Music Business at the Central Institute of Technology. “The quality of information was 100% relevant to me and my students, who were buzzing with the amount of productive tips and practical ‘do this now’ information offered up by Ariel. I am a convert to the cause.”

WAM gratefully acknowledges the support of partners APRA, MEAA, the Central Institute of Technology and Lolly Box Studios in presenting these masterclasses.

The next series of WAM Workshops will take place during the WAMi Festival on 21 - 28 May at the Artrage Bakery performance venue in Perth.

Testimonials

"[Ariel’s] talk was informative and relevant and I found it very helpful. In the week since her talk I made an effort to interact with our Reverbnation and Twitter fan bases more and I'm already noticing increased interest in the band online as a result." - Joey K, The Devil Rides Out.

"Ariel put what was a world of unknown to me into a very real place, she was clear and precise and had a wealth of knowledge for people that are at all levels of online presence, it was so inspiring that I enrolled in her online course, something I am very excited about!"
- Bex Chilcott, Ruby Boots.

"Already getting results from the meeting, it taught us how to really engage with our fans. We're currently booking a tour of the UK and through following [Ariel’s] advice we're starting to generate fans abroad before we've even played a show there."
- Sean Regan, The Spitfires.

ABOUT ARIEL HYATT

 Ariel Publicity

Ariel Hyatt is the founder of Ariel Publicity & Cyber PR, a New York based digital firm that connects artists to blogs, podcasts, Internet radio stations and social media sites, and coach them to create authentic relationships with fans. Over the past 16 years her firm has represented over 1,700 musicians of all genres. Ariel’s book Music Success in Nine Weeks has helped over a thousand musicians navigate the confusing world of social media and online marketing and get in control of their online strategies.

“Ariel is one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve ever met in the Music 2.0 space. She had the vision to move out of the traditional side of the music biz and into the “future of music” long before anyone else and continues to be at the forefront of marketing and PR in the 21st Century.” - Lou Plaia, Founder / VP Artist Development, Reverb Nation.

“I am an author and a musician, and Ariel is a guru of publicity for both…If you just talk with her for 10 minutes, you’ll immediately understand why she’s such a gem.” - Randy Chertkow, Author, The Indie Band Survival Guide.

INDUSTRY PARTNER

PPCA is a national, non-government, non-profit organisation that represents the interests of record companies and Australian recording artists. We are authorised by our licensors (members) to issue blanket licences for the broadcast, communication and public performance of recorded music, music videos and music on hold.

By collecting licence fees and passing them onto the people who provide the music in our lives, we’re not only protecting their rights and ensuring a fair return to them, we’re making sure they can continue to make music for us all to enjoy.
