Since 2010 - WAM and APRA have come together to present the Music Industry Sundowner Series (MISS).

In addition to WAM Workshops, the series aims to provide professional WA musicians access to information and provide skills to help forge a sustainable career in music. Each session focuses on a different topic, presented by inspiring personalities with real-world expertise.

The Music Industry Sundowners will generally occur on the last Monday of every second month at the Rosemount Hotel in North Perth.

 

Entry to the Music Industry Sundowners is generally FREE of charge for all current WAM and APRA  members unless otherwise stated. Registration by the RSVP deadline for each Sundowner is required for guaranteed entry.

2013 MUSIC INDUSTRY SUNDOWNER SERIES

MAKING SENSE OF ROYALTIES
MONDAY 25 MARCH | 6:00 - 7:30pm

      


WAM and APRA|AMCOS announce the second installment of the 2013 Music Industry Sundowner Series, taking place on Monday 25 March at the Rosemount Hotel from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Moderated by Tenille Elkins (APRA|AMCOS) and presented by Lynne Small of PPCA and Susan Cotchin of International Royalties Rescue, the session will will focus on royalty collection with a particular focus on sound recording royalties and an insight into world wide collection. You may already be a member of APRA and AMCOS but how about the PPCA and who's taking care of those royalties outside of Australia for you? Come along, bring your questions and get informed!

Presenters: Lynne Small (PPCA) & Susan Cotchin (International Royalties Rescue)
Time: 6:00pm - 7:30pm, with networking time after the session
Venue: The Rosemount Hotel, 459 Fitzgerald Street, North Perth
Cost: Free for WAM members who register before midnight Sunday 24 March
          $10 general admission for non-members or unregistered members at door.
          APRA members will need to contact their relevant organisation to register.

The following day, Lynne Small will also be available to provide four free one-on-one sessions from 9.30am, acting as unique opportunities to deepen your understanding of PPCA and of royalties’ collection.

Then Susan Cotchin will also be available from 12.30pm til 2pm for more free one-on-one sessions, providing a space for you to have all questions on how to get your international payments.

**Bookings are FREE for WAM Members & APRAlAMCOS members and will take place AT the Sundowner. Both these one-on-one sessions will take place at PICA Bar.

Lynne Small has been with both the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia Ltd (PPCA) and the Australian Recording Industry Association of Australia (ARIA) since 1996, and currently holds the position of General Manager.

Formerly Group Chief Accountant for Festival Records, Lynne is a CPA, holds a Business Degree in Accounting / Computing and an MBA from the AGSM.

Lynne has undertaken the role of Secretary/ Treasurer of the music industry based charity Support Act Limited (SAL) since 1998, and is an active member of SAL’s fundraising/events committee.




Susan Cotchin

Susan Cotchin is the founder and CEO of International Royalties Rescue (IRR) & EB Music Rights. IRR & EB (for the United Kingdom) specialise in the collection of global income derived from the broadcast of the sound recording (neighbouring rights) for artists, record labels and publishers.

Prior to setting up IRR, Susan was the Royalty Accounts Manager for the largest performance society in the United Kingdom, London based Performing Artists Media Rights Association (PAMRA). Susan collected and maximised royalties for artists such as Nelly Furtado, Pavorotti, George Michael & Crowded House.

A BA (Music Business) graduate, Susan worked as a vocalist and music producer’s assistant in LA in 1991, before returning to Melbourne to coordinate and lecture on Legal Issues in the Music Industry at RMIT University for 4 years.

Relocating to London enabled her to gain invaluable experience and insight into Neighbouring Rights, being at the coalface of the implementation of the right in 1998 before embarking on creating her own company International Royalties Rescue. IRR (Australia) now houses clients including, The Temper Trap, Kimbra, Timomatic, Eskimo Joe & San Cisco to name but a few. Internationally, Susan has represented iconic stars such as Beyonce, Tom Jones & Rihanna.

Susan is currently undertaking a Juris Doctor, post-graduate law, to expand the companies services and assist more of the industry with up to the minute specialist expert legal advise.

About Alexis


Alexis Courtin arrived in Australia from Belgium in 2007, opening the door on the West Australian arts sector by becoming KULCHA's Program Manager between 2008 and 2011.

Joining WAM in 2012, Alexis has previously worked two and half years in Paris for Pro/Art, implementing Qwartz, the international network for new and electronic music, and coordinating the annual Qwartz Electronic Music Awards.

In Brussels, Alexis became publicity and tour assistant at Crammed Discs, an independent, international record label whose output blends world music, rock, pop, and electronica.

In his role as Project Officer Alexis manages the WAM Song of the Year, WA's premier songwriting competition, is the WAM proxy on the CONTROL steering committee, and produces a number of music events on WAM's behalf such as Sunday Bands in the City.

In 2012 Alexis continues to develop WAM Workshops - an initiative delivering year round professional development and networking opportunities to WA musicians and music industry professionals.
