WAM Song Of The Year 2010 Coming Soon!

WAM Song of the Year is back for 2010

Entries are now open for the 2010 WAM Song of the Year, proudly presented by WAM and the Mental Health Commission of Western Australia.

Now in its 21st year, the WAM Song Of The Year offers its Grand Prize winner $5,000 cash, a 3 day recording session supplied by Poons Head Recording Studio, a mastering session with James Hewgill Music, the pressing of 500 CDs by Diskbank and an opportunity for a publishing deal with Perfect Pitch Publishing.

Unpublished songwriters can enter their compositions in 10 genre categories, 2 special categories and 2 school age categories, all with prizes of $500 plus one day of recording time in a professional recording studio. This year returns with the “Mentally Healthy” category, where songwriters are encouraged to share songs which deal with positive messages relating to mental health. The special “Love” category also returns this year after a two year hiatus. Outstanding Regional and Indigenous songwriters will once again be honoured in bonus categories.

In addition, a Most Popular Song public vote will be held in conjunction with our Online Partner, perthnow.com.au, in September and October.

HARDCOPY ENTRIES CLOSE 5PM MONDAY 26 JULY 2010

Online entries can be submitted through Sonicbids, our exclusive online submission partner. Go to www.sonicbids.com/wamsoty.
The deadline for online entries is Midday AWST Tuesday 10 August 2010 (Boston time midnight 9 August).

WAM are proud to announce that our major partner in delivering the WAM Song Of The Year is once again the Mental Health Commission WA. WAM has worked with them in developing their Music Feedback campaign (www.musicfeedback.com.au).

The presentation ceremony will take place on 13 October during Mental Health Week, to raise awareness of the benefits of creative activities such as songwriting to people’s mental health. The message for WAM Song Of The Year 2010 is “Creating a Mentally Healthy Community”.

WHAT'S NEW IN SOTY 2010

This year we have introduced some exciting new elements to the WAM Song of the Year.  Early entrants have the opportunity to have their song assessed and then resubmitted before the closing date. We have just held some songwriting workshops and panels during the 2010 WAMi Festival and Music Business Conference, which were well attended and received, as well as a live simulation of a Song of the Year judging panel where the winner was wildcarded into the Song of the Year Grand Prize judging panel.

We also have an International Category for the first time, with entries exclusively through Sonicbids (www.sonicbids.com/wamsoty).

Established by Matt Giovannangelo in 2005, Underground Studios is setup to offer the same quality equipment found in big commercial recording studios on a smaller scale, allowing rates to be cheaper. In turn this also provides a place where bands can be themselves and not be intimidated by their surroundings. Because of the low rates bands can relax and not stress about spending the time it takes to get the job done to their complete satisfaction.

Underground Studios offers some of the most competitive rates in the market so please email us to discuss your project in detail or to get a rates sheet.
