WAM @ SXSW
Since 2003, WAM has staged a showcase of Western Australian artists that have been invited to SXSW.

In 2010, this showcase was incorporated into the Aussie BBQ, which was a Sounds Australia umbrella event that featured a number of showcase events all under the same roof, on the same day.

WA acts that we've showcased at SxSW include The Stems, sodastream, Karnivool, Nathan Gaunt, John Butler, Gyroscope, The Flairz, Groovy Lips and the Yang, The Panda Band and The Chevelles.

WAM is represented at SXSW by it's CEO Paul Bodlovich, presenting a showcase of West Australian acts invited to perform. Opportunities to perform at this event are advertised annually through sonicbids.

While we can offer information about, and some support during, this event - please note that WAM are in no way involved in the selection process.

Our national body, the Australian Music Industry Network (AMIN), is a financial supporter of the Sounds Australia's presence at SXSW.

What is SXSW?
13-18 March 2012
Austin, Texas USA

After celebrating 25 years as the world's leading music industry event, the SXSW Music and Media Conference is back to continue the tradition in 2012. Reaching a quarter of a century of being the biggest and most anticipated convergence of all things music, SXSW is ready to keep the reputation alive by programming an even better event each year.

By day, thousands of conference registrants network in the halls of the Austin Convention Center on their way to do business in the SXSW Trade Show, sit in on informative panel discussions featuring some of the industry's key players, gain insight from legendary keynote speakers or plan out their abundant party schedules. At night, SXSW showcases roughly 2,000 musical acts from around the globe, representing well over 50 different countries, on over 90 stages in downtown Austin. All this, and so much more, combine to make SXSW one of the most revered music events, year after year.

South by Southwest Music Festival is one of the largest, most influential, and most anticipated music events of the year. In 2009, SXSW Music drew over 12,000 music industry professionals for compelling panels, industry discussions, demo listening sessions, trade show exhibits, and - of course - five nights of music in downtown Austin, Texas.

Over 50 Australians performed at SxSW In 2011, including West Australian acts Dom Mariani (DM3), The Novocaines, Injured Ninja, & The Chevelles.
