Industry Advocacy and Policy
WAM represents the interests of it members and the broader music industry in Western Australia through a number of different outlets.

Goals achieved:
  1. WAM will have contributed demonstrably to industry development
  2. WAM will have a larger and better-engaged member base
Through this strategy we will continue to be one of the nation’s leading advocates for the contemporary music sector.

WAM engages with a large number of representative groups both formally and informally. WAM continues to lead the work of The Australian Music Industry Network, Contemporary Music Working Group, and the WA Arts Federation and engages with many more in the areas of arts, youth arts and representation, Indigenous Arts, regional development, education and training, community development and more.

WAM will continue to respond to issues of importance as they arise.

WAM’s Board has identified a need for our CEO to prioritise the building of a stronger connection with key industry leaders, where the focus has been very heavily on building government relations. Alongside this is our intention to inaugurate an annual Industry Summit, bringing together these industry leaders to discuss the state of affairs and demand top level policy directions of WAM as their representative body.

WAM will seek out a high-level community leader - possibly a business person or politician - to be a champion for the industry at the highest level.

The key activities that WAM will undertake in delivering this strategy between now and 2011 are:
  • Proactive advocacy – including engagement with representative groups
  • Reactive advocacy – react and respond to issues as they arise
  • Implement annual Summit of industry leaders
  • Secure a senior influential champion for contemporary music
