wam.asn.au/wamifestival		The annual WAMi Festival celebrates a diverse range of original, contemporary West Australian music over eight days - 26 May to 2 June 2012 - throughout Perth. The WAMi Festival will hit regional WA from 18 May to 20 May for the 2012 Wheatbelt Regional Tour through Merredin, Grass Valley and Quindanning featuring The Siren Tower and Ryan Webb plus local supports. The prestigious WAMi Awards Night on Saturday 2 June, held at The Bakery in Northbridge, will also feature an array of performances from iconic WA bands, including Eskimo Joe, John Butler & Mama Kin and Dom Mariani & the Hurricane Fighter Plane. 		WAM Song of the Year is a prestigious songwriting competition open to unpublished West Australian songwriters of all ages and levels of experience, offering more than $30,000 in prizes. Songwriters are invited to enter their original compositions in 16 categories, including school age plus bonus regional and indigenous categories, with winners in each category going into the running for the Grand Prize. Songwriters entering the competition will be able to have their songs critiqued by experienced industry judges, also offering a valuable opportunity to improve songwriting skills. The awards night will take place on Thursday 11 October at the Fly By Night Club, Fremantle, during Mental Health Week, helping to raise awareness of the benefits of creative activities such as songwriting to people's mental health. Support also comes from our major partners APRA\|AMCOS and Headspace, the national youth mental health foundation. ampfest.com.au		Entries are now open for AmpFest, an annual live music contest open to original West Australian bands, duo and solo acts with an age average under 25 years. Entries also offer the chance to attend the 2012 Drug Aware Band Development Workshops July 24 - 25 at CIT in Leederville. Original WA bands, duos and solo acts, aged between 12 and 25 are eligible to enter. Past winners have included Goodnight Tiger, Sisters Doll, Mink Mussel Creek and runners up Tame Impala. AmpFest is supported by Healthway: Drug Aware, Soundbaker Studios, Zenith Music, RTRFM, Shanghai Twang Studios, Xpress, Drum and CIT Leederville.
